Born in Romania in 1986, Mircea Anghel, a self-taught designer and founder of Cabana Studio, is currently based in Portugal. Displaying an early interest in mathematics and problem-solving, he moved to Lisbon in 2001, initially studying economics before entering the finance sector.
Despite a successful finance career, Anghel’s passion for woodworking grew, leading to the establishment of Cabana Studio in Lisbon in 2015, now a team of 13 members from various origins and professions, operating in harmonious synchronization. Wood takes center stage in Mircea Anghel’s and Cabana Studio’s work, but they also create one off furniture pieces with metal and stone.
In 2019, Cabana Studio relocated to a 1,500-square-meter sawmill in Alcácer do Sal, expanding the scale of their designs and collaborating with local boat builders. Cabana Studio aims to become a vibrant hub for artists, designers, makers, and scientists, reviving the Portuguese tradition of boat building through collaborative residencies.
