Artist Alexandra Ferreira breathes life into marble through unique poetic expressions.
Scattered throughout Prime Matter Gallery are various Daily Objects especially created for the ‘Florista Marmoris’ exhibition—a category of art objects Ferreira has been producing for decades. Despite their modest scale, her sculptures challenge preconceived notions about the use of marble in art and design, providing a counterbalance to the grandeur of other exhibited pieces.
The Daily Objects represent everyday objects as part of fantasised biographies. The focus is on ideia and the message conveyed through the artwork, rather than the traditional aesthetic qualities of the sculpture.
Her work is inviting us to explore the versatility of marble as a medium and its boundless potential for artistic expression, even in the most diminutive forms.
